SAGE Advisory Group, LLC, Morristown,NJ
Our principal, Sheri Iannetta Cupo, is a Certified Financial Planner® who will provide you with professional advice and guidance. Sheri Cupo and her Paraplanners are members of both the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and the Financial Planning Association (FPA).
Ours is an independent, Fee-Only firm. “Fee-Only” means that we receive our compensation solely and directly from our clients. We do not accept referral fees, and we do not receive commissions from the sale of insurance or investment products.
Lastly, we execute an annual Fiduciary Oath, which means that we will always put your interests first.
OUR CLIENT PROFILE: Our client relationships run from one-time, as-needed engagements to on-going relationships with multi-generational families. Our clients are people of all ages from all walks of life.
Our foundation in Fee-Only financial planning includes a specialty in planning for busy professionals – corporate employees & executives as well as lawyers and medical professionals – who often have complex planning needs related to their employment contracts, stock option & restricted stock compensation and other benefit programs.
OUR MISSION: To help our clients make the most of their employment as we guide them to financial independence and through the next phase of their lives - whether that means retirement, the start of a new career or business, charitable work or a future they are still envisioning.
The Initial Planning program typically includes two face-to-face meetings with an interim conference call over a time frame of five to six months. The program may include the following services depending on your financial planning needs:
Retirement (or financial independence) cash flow modeling
We prepare detailed models of “cash flow for the rest of your life.” These models are flexible to respond to all of your “what-if” questions. For example, we can prepare a base scenario assuming retirement at age 62 and a second “what-if” scenario with retirement delayed until age 65. We test the plan's sustainability using Monte Carlo simulations, back testing, rolling periods, and bad timing. No one can purport to know the future, but these tools help us to test your plan's likelihood of success.
Investment portfolio review
We find that investment portfolios have become an accumulation of assets from a variety of sources, such as the current employer retirement plan, a rollover IRA, individual stocks and mutual funds, and a concentrated position in one security. We analyze individual components of your portfolio (along with the portfolio taken as a whole) and provide you with a coordinated plan for attaining your investment objectives.
Asset allocation advice
Proper asset allocation among the classes and styles of investments is critical to the execution of all financial plans. Our asset allocation recommendations take into account your risk tolerance. We accomplish this by having you complete a Risk Tolerance Questionnaire which addresses (1) your investment time horizon, (2) how much risk you can afford to take and (3) what is your psychological tolerance for risk.
Personal spending analysis
Have you ever said to yourself “Where does all my money go?” We prepare detailed analyses of your spending habits focusing on the breakdown between discretionary items and non-discretionary expenditures. We assist you in developing emergency cash reserves and developing a “pay yourself first mentality”.
Insurance needs review
We take the time to guide you thru the options available for selecting life, disability and long-term care insurance. Since we are not influenced by commissions on the sale of financial products, the selection process will be objective and goal-oriented.
Employer stock compensation strategies
Stock options, stock appreciation rights and employee stock purchase plans have a unique way of complicating your personal tax situation. We understand the intricacies of equity compensation plans and will work with you to develop an exercise strategy that addresses your financial planning goals and minimizes the tax burden. See our Stock Plan Services page for additional details.
Tax Planning
For the current tax year, we may prepare an annual income tax projection to estimate your expected liability or refund based upon expected income during the tax year. We make recommendations to adjust your withholding or estimated tax payments if necessary. We would address whether you are taking full advantage of opportunities to minimize your federal and state income tax liabilities.
Estate planning review
Estate taxes may only affect the “rich and famous,” but having updated estate planning documents, such as a will, is essential to everyone regardless of their income. We will answer your questions about these documents and suggest other estate planning strategies, whenever appropriate.
Education funding
From personal experiences, we are very familiar with college education funding and the options available to finance this major expenditure. We will assist you in developing a savings program and determining the proper asset allocation for your education funding assets.
